Passing Cal State LA-too bad those trees were in the way!

My favorite part about taking the Metrolink route to El Monte is going down the middle of the I-10 freeway (plus the fact that Metrolink doesn't delay the train)

When this shot was taken, it was a little after 4 PM. We weren't to Pomona yet, but we were supposed to stop there at 3:11PM. The man in the tan outfit was only going to Pomona, but gave up and just got off the train while we were sitting in this siding-he called his friend to pick him up. The man in the white shirt and jeans was "chasing" our train and taking pictures of it. The two men up by the switch and road crossing are the assistant conductor and another railfan.

The two railfans and assistant conductor are framed by the silouette of the conductor (left) and a little girl. All 3 of us were watching out the open back door as we backed up across the street and onto the main track. By this time it was about 4:45, and we still haven't moved, much less reached Pomona.

I finally went to bed at 9PM, while we were about 30 miles out from Palm Springs (we were supposed to be at Palm Springs at 5 PM)

When I woke up, I took this shot of us crossing a stream. I thought we were in New Mexico, so we didn't lose TOO much time
Picture 012.jpg
After crossing the stream, I fell back asleep for a bit. When I woke up we were stopped at a station. My car attendant said this was Yuma. YUMA??? It was 8:15AM. We were supposed to be at Yuma at 8:24PM the night before!!!
Picture 013.jpg
Here's one reason why we were so late. Clueless UP dispatchers giving freights priority over us.
Picture 014.jpg
The ridership on this train was pretty sad. This shot of the dining car was taken during breakfast-typically all those seats would be filled with passengers!
Picture 016.jpg
When you are running 12 hours late, you get to see scenery in daylight that you couldn't normally see. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot to see between Yuma and Tucson.
Picture 017.jpg
AARRGGHHH! We wait for ANOTHER UP freight!

More of the AZ desert. We were supposed to pass by here at 11PM the night before!

Blocking a street crossing in Maricopa while we board passengers
Picture 022.jpg
At least with the "high noon" sun I was able to get a good shot of Maricopa's Amtrak station (the station is the dome car)
The timetable says we were supposed to stop here at 11:17PM the night before.

For my lunch before ditching the train in Tucson, I had the Angus burger.

I grab a quick shot of a fellow passenger's Roast Beef and Swiss sandwich before he scarfs it down.

Now for the best part of lunch! Chocolate Mousse Cake!

Another passenger ordered the Field Green Salad with Chicken
