My mom and I took a train trip to Chicago during my (short) summer break. We took the Southwest Chief route to Chicago, and the Texas Eagle train back to Los Angeles.
Amtrak's only dome car was again brought out to handle the 2005 Thanksgiving increase in passenger traffic. Of course, I had to ride it! This car is now 50 years old, and I hope it sees another 50 years of service.
My worst train trip, and the second worst "vacation" I've taken. We were 12 hours late by Yuma, and my trip to El Paso had to be cut short at Tucson due to the lateness of the train.
This was a great day trip up to Emeryville. I upgraded to a sleeping car roomette, and enjoyed the Pacific Parlour Car with all its amenities. It's truly the way to travel along the California coast!
